Mirokunosato
みろくの里
A hilltop amusement park in Fukuyama whose recreated late-1950s street has a sweet shop and a wooden school from the Japan of not so long ago.
A hilltop theme park for three generations
Mirokunosato is a "three-generation theme park" spread over gentle hills on the outskirts of Fukuyama, Hiroshima Prefecture. It aims to be somewhere children, parents and grandparents can all enjoy together, with an amusement park, an area recreating a Showa-era townscape, a dinosaur area and more.
Depending on the season, there is a leisure pool in summer and illuminations in winter. In 2026, "Miro Matsuri 2026", an event to celebrate switching on the illuminations, is planned for 7 November.
A 1950s-60s town: Itsuka Kita Michi
The park's most distinctive feature is Itsuka Kita Michi ("a road I once walked"). This area recreates a townscape from the fourth decade of the Showa era (roughly 1955 to 1964), and as you stroll its film-set-like street you get a glimpse of everyday life in the Japan of not so long ago.
Along the street you will find a post office that incorporates part of a real post office building moved here, a wooden primary school with old desks and an organ, a telephone museum where you can touch rotary-dial phones, and a taishu shokudo (an inexpensive neighbourhood diner) serving old-style curry and ramen. At the dagashiya (a shop selling cheap sweets for children) you can buy old-fashioned sweets from 10 yen each. The film museum displays material from films and TV dramas shot at Mirokunosato.
The amusement park and the dinosaur forest
The amusement park has lots of rides, including the Music Coaster, a roller coaster 800 metres long, and a giant Ferris wheel 50 metres across. There is also the Big Bee Buggy, which drives over unpaved mountain tracks and grassland (with age and height limits).
Dinosaur Park is a walk-through attraction in a forest where life-size dinosaurs move and roar. It needs a ticket on top of park admission, and because there are steep slopes, comfortable shoes are recommended. There are no toilets inside.
Getting there
From JR Fukuyama Station it takes about 30 minutes by car, and also about 30 minutes by local bus. You can also get there by bus from JR Matsunaga Station. By car it is about 20 minutes from the Fukuyama-nishi interchange, and there is a large free car park.
Opening hours change with the season. Check them on the official website, along with opening days and prices.
