Tsuki Usagi no Sato

月うさぎの里

Near the Kaga Onsen hot spring towns, about 50 rabbits hop freely around an open garden. Meet the ones that come to your feet, then pick rabbit-shaped sweets and souvenirs.

A rabbit village born from the legend of the moon rabbit

Tsuki Usagi no Sato is a rabbit-themed attraction in Kaga, Ishikawa Prefecture. As well as meeting the rabbits, you can shop for souvenirs, snack as you stroll and try hands-on activities.

Its theme is a local tale, the "Legend of the Moon Rabbit of Kaga". According to the official website, in the Edo period an official helped a white rabbit that had been injured, and that autumn the rabbit stopped the long rains and brought a good harvest. In Japanese, the tsuki (moon) linked to rabbits sounds the same as tsuki meaning good luck, so rabbits are seen as bringers of good fortune.

Meeting free-roaming rabbits in the garden

About 50 rabbits roam freely in the outdoor garden. You can watch them lazing about wherever they like, around the flower beds, under the eaves or beneath the benches, and stroke them.

There is also Nakayoshi Ohiza Time ("lap time with a friend"), when staff choose a rabbit that suits you and sit it on your lap. Times, content and prices can change, so check the official website.

Rabbit goods and local sweets

According to the official Kaga Onsen tourism website, the shop stocks about 2,000 rabbit-themed items. It also sells well-known sweets from the Hokuriku region.

The on-site sweet workshop makes manju (buns with a sweet filling) from local ingredients and rabbit-shaped baked sweets. There are also things you can eat as you walk, such as soft-serve ice cream and gelato.

Getting there and opening times

By car it is about three minutes from Kaga IC (interchange) on the Hokuriku Expressway, and there is a car park. By train, take CANBUS, the loop bus that tours Kaga city, from JR Kaga Onsen Station.

Check opening hours and admission on the official website. Admission prices were revised on 1 August 2026.

Tips

  • The rabbits go back to their hutches 30 minutes before closing, so if you want plenty of time with them, go early.
