One of the largest theme parks in the Chugoku and Shikoku regions, in Kagawa's hills: rides, recreated Asian temples, flower gardens and 2.5 million lights.

A theme park that closed and came back

NEW Reoma World is a theme park in Ayauta, part of Marugame City in Kagawa Prefecture. It opened as Reoma World in 1991 and closed temporarily in 2000. It reopened as NEW Reoma World in 2004, and today, together with its hotel and other facilities, it is known as Reoma Resort. 2026 marks the park's 35th anniversary.

As well as around 20 rides, including a giant Ferris wheel and roller coasters, there are parades and a 360-degree 3D projection-mapping show. There is also Gokko Town, where children can try out different jobs, and a swimming pool in summer.

Oriental Trip: travel around Asia without a passport

What sets it apart from other theme parks is Oriental Trip, an area that recreates heritage sites and buildings from across Asia. Here you will find a mosque with a lapis-lazuli-blue dome, Prasat Hin Arun, a temple from Cambodia's Angkor era, and a half-scale replica of Tashichho Dzong, a temple in Bhutan. According to the official website, it takes about one to two hours to walk around at a relaxed pace.

You enter the area on the Magic Straw, a long escalator that rises 42m over a length of 96m, with a ride lasting 3 minutes 14 seconds. The official website describes it as the longest escalator in Japan.

Flowers and lights: Reoma Flower World and Reoma Light World

Reoma Flower World, inside the park, is a flower area of about 30,000 tsubo (a traditional Japanese unit of area; about 100,000 square metres), with seasonal flowers such as the spring tulip festival and the spring and autumn rose festivals.

At night, Reoma Light World fills the park with about 2.5 million bulbs. It has been certified as a Japan Night View Heritage site, and it was ranked third in the nationwide Illumination Awards for 2022. If you want to see the illuminations, choose a day when the park is open into the evening.

Getting there

Free shuttle buses run from JR Sakaide, Utazu and Kotohira stations, and from Okada Station on the Kotoden (Takamatsu-Kotohira Electric Railroad). Paid local buses also run.

By car, it is about 25 minutes from the Zentsuji or Sakaide interchanges on the Takamatsu Expressway, and there is a large free car park. The official hotel, Oedo Onsen Monogatari Hotel Reoma no Mori, has hot springs, so you can also make it an overnight trip.

Tips

  • The park has regular closing days, and opening hours vary a lot by day and season. Check the opening calendar on the official website before you go.
  • If you are using the free shuttle bus, check the times for both directions on the official website in advance.
  • The official website says Oriental Trip can be enjoyed on rainy days too. When the weather is bad, one option is to base your visit around that area.
