A Spanish town in Ise-Shima
Shima Spain Village is a Spain-themed resort in Shima, Mie Prefecture. It was developed by the Kintetsu Group, and its centrepiece, the theme park Parque España (Spanish for "Spain Park"), opened on 22 April 1994. The site also has the Hotel Shima Spain Village and a natural hot spring, Himawari no Yu.
The park is divided into areas that recreate Spanish streetscapes. From a square modelled on Spain's Plaza Mayor to the white-walled houses of Calle Santa Cruz, one photogenic scene follows another. Thanks partly to social media, the park has drawn fresh attention in recent years, and in 2024 it welcomed about 1.42 million visitors, the most in the past ten years.
From roller coasters to flamenco
The rides range from thrilling roller coasters to gentle rides for small children. The best known is Pyrenees, a suspended coaster that runs hanging beneath its track. It is 1,234m long and, when the park opened, was the longest of its type in the world.
The entertainment is a highlight too, with passionate flamenco shows by dancers from Spain and street musicals starring the park's characters. For food, there are dishes that combine Spanish cooking with local ingredients, such as paella made with Ise-ebi (spiny lobster) from Ise-Shima.
Getting there
A direct local bus from Kintetsu Ugata Station takes about 13 minutes. There is also the Pearl Shuttle, a shuttle bus that needs advance booking, between the park and the Naiku (Inner Shrine) of Ise Grand Shrine (from Ugata Station you use the local bus). By car, it is about 20 minutes along National Route 167 from Toba-Minami Shiroki IC.
Opening hours vary from day to day, and there are closed days. Check the opening calendar on the official website before you go.
Tips
- If you are combining the park with a visit to Ise Grand Shrine, the Pearl Shuttle, which runs between the Naiku and Shima Spain Village and must be booked in advance, is handy.
- The flamenco shows run at set times, so check the show schedule as soon as you arrive.
- There are Halloween events in autumn (until November in 2026).
