An 80-hectare seaside park on Tokyo Bay with a giant Ferris wheel, an aquarium with swimming tuna, bird ponds and beaches: a full day out by the station.

A seaside park on reclaimed land

Kasai Rinkai Park is a metropolitan park on Tokyo Bay in Edogawa Ward, Tokyo. It was created as part of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Kasai Offshore Development Project, as a place to bring back seaside nature that had been lost, and opened on 1 June 1989.

Covering about 80 hectares, it follows the theme of "people meeting greenery and water" and is divided into five zones along Tokyo Bay. It is only about a 1-minute walk from Kasai-Rinkai-Koen Station on the JR Keiyo Line: step out of the station and you are in the park.

The giant Ferris wheel and Tokyo Sea Life Park

The symbol of the park is the Diamond and Flower Ferris Wheel, which opened in 1999. It is 117m tall and 111m across.

At the heart of the park is Kasai Rinkai Suizokuen (Tokyo Sea Life Park), an aquarium run by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. It is known for the bluefin tuna swimming in its huge tank and for its penguins. Because the building has grown old, a new aquarium is being built and is scheduled to open in September 2028. As of September 2026, the current aquarium is still open.

Wild birds, beaches and seaside nature

On the east side of the park is the Bird Sanctuary, with freshwater and brackish ponds (brackish water is a mix of seawater and fresh water), where you can watch wild birds from the Watching Centre. About 170 bird species have been recorded here, and it is a resting spot for migrating birds.

On the sea side, a bridge leads to Kasai Kaihin Park, with beaches to the east and west. Just a short train ride from central Tokyo, you find yourself looking at a seaside landscape.

Tips

  • The aquarium has closing days, and some exhibits may be temporarily unavailable while they are changed over. Check the notices on the aquarium's official website before you go.
  • The park also has a barbecue area. Check the rules and whether you need to book on the official website.
  • Over the New Year holiday, some facilities, such as the service centre, are closed.
