Izu Panorama Park
伊豆パノラマパーク
Near Izu-Nagaoka Onsen, a 7-minute ropeway ride takes you to the top of 452m Mount Katsuragi, where Ao Terrace looks out over Mount Fuji and Suruga Bay.
Up Mount Katsuragi by ropeway
Izu Panorama Park is a visitor attraction on the summit and at the foot of Mount Katsuragi (452m) in Izunokuni City, Shizuoka Prefecture. A ropeway links the base to the summit, taking about 7 minutes each way.
It began as the Izu-Nagaoka Ropeway, which opened in 1962. After several name changes, it has been called Izu Panorama Park since 2021.
Ao Terrace and the summit
Right by the upper ropeway station is the viewing plaza, Ao Terrace (ao means blue). Mount Fuji and Suruga Bay spread out in front of you, and when conditions are right, the terrace's reflecting pool (a shallow basin of water) shows Mount Fuji upside down, a view known as sakasa Fuji.
On the summit there are walking paths linking wooden decks and viewing platforms, an ashiyu (foot bath) where you can soak your feet while looking at Mount Fuji, Katsuragi Shrine, the Hyakutai Jizo-son (a row of many small stone Jizo statues) and a café.
Getting there
From Izu-Nagaoka Station on the Izuhakone Railway Sunzu Line, take an Izuhakone Bus for about 15 minutes to the Izunokuni Shiyakusho-mae (Izunokuni City Hall) stop. The ropeway base station is a short walk away. At the base there is a restaurant and a shop selling local specialities.

Tips
- Some days Mount Fuji is hidden by cloud. Check the weather before you go and aim for a clear day.
- The late afternoon is recommended as a good time to photograph the upside-down Fuji reflected in Ao Terrace's pool.
- If you are staying at Izu-Nagaoka Onsen, it makes an easy half-day side trip from the hot spring town.
