Shiroi Koibito Park

白い恋人パーク

A Sapporo sweets park in English-style buildings where you tour the factory making Shiroi Koibito, Hokkaido's classic souvenir. Renewed in July 2026.

Home of Shiroi Koibito, Hokkaido's signature sweet

Shiroi Koibito ("White Lovers") is a sweet launched in December 1976 by Ishiya, a Sapporo confectionery company. It is chocolate sandwiched between two langues de chat (thin, crisp biscuits). According to the packaging, the name comes from the founder murmuring "the white lovers are falling" as he watched the snow on his way home from skiing. At first it was sold only in Hokkaido, and it became the quintessential Hokkaido souvenir.

Shiroi Koibito Park is in Miyanosawa, in Sapporo's Nishi Ward, where Ishiya has its head office. It opened in 1995 as the "Chocolate Factory" and took its current name in 2003. Its English-style buildings make the most of brick and timber framing, and its landmark is a karakuri clock tower (a clock tower whose figures move to mark the hour).

The paid area, renewed in July 2026

The park has a free area and a paid area that requires an admission fee. The paid area reopened after renovation on 30 July 2026.

The tour area has been renamed Shiroi Koibito Factory, and you can watch the Shiroi Koibito production line while viewing exhibits on how it is made. There is also a new interactive space where you step inside a giant can modelled on the Shiroi Koibito tin, and if you scan the QR code you receive on entry, you get a small box of Shiroi Koibito.

Sweet-making sessions and a seasonal garden

In the bookable sweet-making sessions, you can make a sweet all of your own. There is also a Chocolate Lounge serving desserts you can only eat here, and shops.

The courtyard has a rose garden where you can enjoy the flowers of the season.

Getting there

It is about a 7-minute walk from Miyanosawa Station on the Sapporo Municipal Subway Tozai Line.

The paid area has a last entry time. Opening hours and admission fees were revised with the renovation, so check the official website.

Tips

  • The factory tour is in the paid area, while the shops and the space around the karakuri clock tower are in the free area. If you are short of time, the free area alone still gives you a feel for the place.
  • Sweet-making sessions can be booked, so if you want to join one, reserve early on the official website.
  • Next door is the Miyanosawa Shiroi Koibito Football Ground, used for training by Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo of Japan's J.League football league.
