A flower park on the north shore of Lake Kawaguchi facing Mount Fuji. Lavender in early summer and red kochia in autumn frame the lake and the mountain.

A north-shore park where the lake meets Mount Fuji

Oishi Park is on the north shore of Lake Kawaguchi in the town of Fujikawaguchiko, Yamanashi Prefecture. It faces Mount Fuji across the lake, and with little in the way, lots of people come to photograph the lake and Mount Fuji together.

A "Flower Road" about 350 m long runs along the lake, planted with more than 90 kinds of flowers through the year. Entry to the park is free, and you can stroll around it at any time.

Flowers through the seasons

The best known are the lavender flowers of early summer. They usually bloom from around late June to around mid-July, and a Herb Festival is held at this time. You can look across the purple flower beds to the lake and Mount Fuji.

In autumn a plant called kochia turns red and brightens the paths. Moss phlox, rapeseed flowers and others bloom here too.

Kawaguchiko Natural Living Center and getting there

Inside the park is the Kawaguchiko Natural Living Center, where a café with a view of Mount Fuji serves juice and soft-serve ice cream made with local blueberries. The shop sells Mount Fuji and lavender themed goods and homemade blueberry jam.

From Kawaguchiko Station on the Fujikyu Line, take the Kawaguchiko loop bus for about 30 minutes to the Kawaguchiko Natural Living Center stop. By taxi it takes about 15 minutes. By car it is about 15 minutes from the Kawaguchiko Interchange on the Chuo Expressway, and there is free parking.

Tips

  • The best time for the flowers changes from year to year. If you are going for the lavender or the kochia, check the information from the Kawaguchiko Natural Living Center or the Fujikawaguchiko Tourism Federation beforehand.
  • Mount Fuji is often hidden by cloud, so whether you can see it depends on the weather.
  • The jam-making experience at the Kawaguchiko Natural Living Center is suspended as of September 2026, and no date has been set for it to restart.
