Yamanakako Hananomiyako Park
花の都公園
Wide flower fields near Lake Yamanaka with Mount Fuji behind: spring tulips, summer sunflowers and autumn cosmos, each season paired with Fuji.
300,000 square metres of flowers at the foot of Mount Fuji
Yamanakako Hananomiyako Park is a flower park in Yamanakako Village, Yamanashi Prefecture. It lies near Lake Yamanaka, one of the Fuji Five Lakes, and its grounds of about 300,000 square metres are covered with seasonal flower fields. On a clear day you can see Mount Fuji rising beyond the flowers.
It is run by the Yamanakako Tourism Promotion Corporation, which manages the village's public facilities.
Flowers that change with the seasons
Spring brings tulips (around late April to early May) and rapeseed blossom; summer brings cornflowers, baby's breath, poppies, zinnias and sunflowers. In autumn, yellow cosmos, cosmos and buckwheat flowers colour the fields.
How well the flowers bloom depends a great deal on each year's weather. In September 2026, for example, the official website reported that long spells of rain and strong winds had damaged the flower fields. Checking the bloom information on the official website before you go will save disappointment.
In winter, from around late November to mid-January, there is a period when you can see "Diamond Fuji", when the setting sun sits right on the summit of Mount Fuji, and there are illuminations too.
Free flower fields and the paid "Seiryu no Sato"
The park is divided into the outdoor flower fields and farm area, and the paid "Seiryu no Sato" section. The flower fields and farm area are described as a free area.
Seiryu no Sato has the Myojin Falls, a waterfall 10 m high and 80 m wide, a water playground where children can splash about, and Floral Dome Furara, an all-weather greenhouse with tropical plants and flowers of the four seasons. The waterfall and water playground are due to close from 9 November 2026 until late March 2027.
Getting there
By car it is about 5 minutes from Yamanakako IC on the Higashi-Fujigoko Road, and there is a paid car park. If you come by train and bus, the Fujikko-go loop bus, which runs round Fujiyoshida City, Oshino Hakkai and Lake Yamanaka, is handy.
Opening hours and prices change with the seasons, and in winter (1 December to 15 March) the park is closed every Tuesday. See the official website for details.
Tips
- If you want flowers and Mount Fuji together, pick a clear day. Once clouds roll in, Fuji disappears.
- Bicycles can be hired in the park, including two-seater and four-seater bikes for getting round the wide flower fields.
- The best viewing period is short and shifts with the weather. If there is a particular flower you want to see, check the bloom information on the official website just before you go.
